Abstract

Cefdinir (CFDN) concentrations in human serum and jaw cyst following a single oral administration of CFDN (200 mg) were studied. The mean concentrations in serum, cyst wall, and cyst fluid peaked at identical times, 3.5 h after administration, and were 1.94 μg/mL, 0.69 μg/g and 0.22 μg/mL, respectively. The mean concentration ratios of cyst wall/serum, cyst fluid/serum, and cyst fluid/cyst wall at the peak time were 0.37, 0.12, and 0.33, respectively. Most of the CFDN concentrations in jow cyst exceed the MIC for 80% of clinically isolated strains of oral streptococci. Thus, CFDN may be a valuable antimicrobial agent for the oral surgery.
